Islam is a religion followed by millions of people around the world. It teaches peace, kindness, and belief in one God, Allah. To live a good Muslim life, every Muslim follows 5 important duties. These are called the 5 Pillars of Islam. Let's learn what they are.
1. Shahadah (Faith)
This is the first and most important pillar. It means believing in one God, Allah, and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His last messenger.
The words of Shahadah are:
“There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.”
Saying this with belief makes a person a Muslim.
2. Salah (Prayer)
Muslims pray 5 times a day:
Fajr (before sunrise)
Dhuhr (midday)
Asr (afternoon)
Maghrib (after sunset)
Isha (night)
These prayers help Muslims remember Allah, stay thankful, and feel peace in their hearts.
3. Zakat (Charity)
Zakat means giving a small part of your money (usually 2.5%) to help the poor and needy.
It teaches sharing, caring, and helping others in the community. Zakat cleans your wealth and brings blessings.
4. Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan)
Every year in the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
They don’t eat, drink, or do bad things during this time. Fasting teaches patience, self-control, and kindness to others.
5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah)
Hajj is a special journey to the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia.
Every Muslim must try to go at least once in their life, if they are healthy and can afford it.
Hajj brings all Muslims together and reminds them that everyone is equal in the eyes of Allah.
